Youth Scholarship Program
The Ocean City Sailing Foundation’s youth scholarship program provides funding to individuals for sailing instruction. Scholarships provide youth ages 8-17 with the opportunity to attend one summer sailing class consisting of morning (9 am-12 noon) or afternoon (1 pm - 4 pm ) sessions for a one week sailing class. Applicants can select a four or five day program. Maximum award to an individual or family is up to two (2), one-week sessions.
The mission of OCSF is to promote sailing to youth and families in the Greater Ocean City Area by providing safe and affordable sailing lessons and clinics.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted anytime, but please submit at least 2 full weeks in advance of when the applicant plans to take lesson(s) to allow time for the application to be reviewed and processed.
Criteria
Applicants must be between 8 and 17 years of age. Applicants must show a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Guidelines for submitting this information are included in the application form. Applications must be filled out completely. Essay describing yourself and why you would like to participate in a summer sailing class. (500 words or less)
Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or member of the community on your behalf.
Any information that may be helpful in determining financial need. (200 words or less)
Review Process
Applications must be submitted by June 1st and will be reviewed by OCSF board, which will make award recommendations by June 20th to OCSF’s Director. All decisions of the OCSF board are final. The individual making the application will be notified of the decision of the Committee or Director by June 30th.
Recognition
Scholarship recipients are highly encouraged to submit a note of appreciation for participation in the program addressed to the OCYC Foundation within two weeks of the end of camp. The note should describe the recipients experience and how the camp impacted them. The Foundation saves these letters to show our scholarship fund donors and community supporters the impact of providing scholarships to members of the community..
